It was late
August in 2009, and Trish
couldn’t stand not
having a dog in the house one minute more. So she went
to the
Henderson shelter to fill the dog shaped hole in her heart.
There she found a scrawny but plucky ginger dog hiding under a thick
veneer of dirt and dust. Daphne was a 3.5 year old who won Trish
over with her quick and easy sweetness and happy attitude, not to mention the
intelligence lurking behind the little cowlick between her eyes.
At her first
obedience class, her instructor mentioned she would be a
good prospect for flyball and that suggestion finally came to fruition
when the two joined Vegas Velocity in June of 2010. That
instructor was right; Daphne is in love with two things in this world: her
daddy Virko and her tug. They leave Daphne’s dad at home as her
ultimate reward for a good practice and bring the tug with them to get her
to fly over the jumps. Works nearly every time, except when she turns
into Adventure Dog and goes on walk-about instead of the business at hand.
She runs
in the start position for Mach III and has turned in 4 perfect
starts in her career, two of them in back to back races!
